Review for Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Title: Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1)
Author: Richelle Mead
Summary:
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a
hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human
teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her
best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now
they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most
in danger...
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever

Review:
Finally decided to start reading this series… but I gotta
say, since I just started reading Jennifer L Armentrouts Covenant series, I can
definitely see the similarities. I know this one came first, so it kinda sucks
how much they are similar, its gonna kinda be hard to not compare the two… but
whatever.
Anyways, the book is about two girls that are bonded not
only in friendship, but by magic. Lissa is a Princess Moira (basically a live
vampire) who is different than the others. Rose is her best friend, a dhympir
(half moiri and half human) and training to be a Guardian (the dhympirs that
protect the Moari)
They each have secrets but stick together through thick and
thin. Theres a guy, of course, who is Rose’s mentor, who has agreed to help
train her so she can be up to par with the other student, after their two year
escape to the normal world.
He isn’t as dreamy as Aiden (sorry for the comparison) but
still ok I guess. The romance was kinda lacking in the book. But where it
lacked in romance, it won out in plot. The story was great. So in depth. The whole
world was created and so believable!
Overall, I liked this book, and am about to start the
second, but it was hard to read without comparing it to the Covenant series. I
know that’s unfair… but its how it is. This one was better in ways (plot) but
lacking in other ways (romance)
