Self-Pubbing is harder than it looks!
So, I feel the urge to update things once again.
You may think that once you write a book, then the hard work
is done. But you would be sorely incorrect. Yes, writing a book is hard. It takes
a lot of hard work, patience and dedication, but really, that’s the easy part.
That’s just telling a story.
The hard parts come later, after you have written it.
See, this is what happened to me. I finished writing my book
in Jan 2012. YES- almost ONE FULL year ago. Then I edited it. Then revised and
edited again. Then sent it to a pretty freakin awesome beta reader, and revised
and edited again. Then I had to take a step back from it, and started writing
the sequel.
Then I went back and edited it again.
Then I decided it was ready, had photos taken for the cover
by an amazing photographer (shout out to Digitally Different Photography) and
the cover was made. Then I thought, 10 months later and now its ready.
(somewhere in there I queried agents 3 different times, after 3 different drafts, with no luck.)
So, then I decided I wanted to have a book tour ready for
the release. BUT- at the last minute, I was afraid. I experienced this heart
wrenching, holy-crap-what-am-I-doing fear after I started sending out my book
to reviewers.
I thought of this one author (in case you don’t know what I’m
talking about, read this post) where I participated in a book tour and read her
book and could NOT believe she thought it was ready to publish. It felt like a
first draft. No climax, SO many grammatical errors. So many things wrong.
And I thought- oh no, that’s gonna be me!! And I finally
convinced my husband that an actual editor was necessary.
BUT- I had already sent out ARCs to several bloggers. Then I
had to retract it all, and explain that I’m moving the book tour to FEB instead
of Jan, so that I will have time to really make it ready. (the editor will be
done the first week of Jan)
So… there you have it. And I still haven’t even published yet!
On the upside, it will be more polished when YOU read it
(because you will, right?) it will just be one month later.
Sorry for the confusion everyone!! So now POWER release: Feb
2013
AND- still email me (theresamcrocker@gmail.com) to sign
up for the book tour. I have about 13 bloggers signed up already.
Also- another upside. Today I wrote 5500 more words in HOPE,
The Descendant Trilogy #2!!
YAY
Feb is right around the corner! Let me know when it is out so I can buy a copy, read it and get your autograph in it! :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the author status, Teresa! Wow! I can't believe how fast your turn around is! I've been working on my blasted WIP for the last 3 and a half years and it's still not done!
ReplyDeleteGood luck, lovely! You'll more than likely never feel ready, though you've probably been ready for months!! ;)
Best of luck!
