(Deck of Lies #4)
Author: Jade Varden
Summary:
Cashing Out
Do I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
How can I, when the truth will destroy us all? Now that I’ve started telling lies, I can’t stop. Not until all this is over, and I’m free of the family that never felt like mine. Maybe it’s wrong. Maybe I’m a bad person.
But it’s definitely the only way I’m ever going to escape them. I have to take the opportunity, no matter how terrible it is...don’t I?

Review:
So… IT FINALLY CAME OUT! I have to say, I was SO nervous
about how this series would end! I really cared about Rain and wanted her to
have a good ending. Her life was ALL kinds of messed up. (not to mention, I always
want the good guys to win and the bad guys to get justice) and I just really couldn’t
see a way that could happen. I mean… at the end of Death… (the 3rd
book) I just could NOT find a way this could end up that would make me happy.
So, this story starts out with Rain in jail, waiting until
her 17th birthday, the day she would have the trial for a murder she
didn’t commit. Her pseudo father is now her lawyer but his priorities do NOT
lie with Rain. His loyalties are actually with the murderer… so her situation totally
sucks!
The realities of jail are actually a lot harsher than
portrayed in this book, but I supposed if you have millions of dollars at your fingertips
than you can create a sort of safe haven in jail…? Not too sure about that.
Finally the trial starts, and for minute I thought I was
watching an episode of Law and Order or something! Haha. (A show I used to
watch regularly for years) For a brief moment, I got kinda tired of the back
and forth banter between the lawyers and the witnesses that I really didn’t care
about. I mean… I was so ready to figure out where all her little clues were
leading to! I know Rain had SOMETHING up her sleeve, but I just didn’t know
what.
I have to say… I LOVED LOVED LOVED this entire series! BUT I
love the ending best of all!! It is everything I could have asked for (had I known
what to ask for) in an ending!! JUSTICE was served!!! (not 100% but enough to
satisfy me) Rain grows emotionally and mentally after all the trauma she has endured
through her short life! (she was a much better person in the end than I could
have been. Way more generous)
PLUS… OMG… Wait for it…
RIVER!!! *fan girl squee*
I always loved River! From the very beginning through all
the ups and downs!! And though this is NOT primarily a romance novel… River
made me love this series SOOO MUCH!!
And like I said… the end? PERFECT
I gotta say. I rarely read novels that are not in some way
paranormal/fantasy/something strange that doesn’t actually happen in real life.
I mean, ill do a contemporary romance every now and then. But that’s it!
This series does not lay in ANY of those categories! BUT I love
it!!
This was a perfect ending to a GREAT series!!
Rating: 5 Stars!!!
(been a while since I gave a 5 star rating!)
...So I take it you enjoyed the book? I don't know; I couldn't quite make it out from your review.
ReplyDeleteJoking, of course. It's good to hear that you enjoyed it, and triumphantly so. I suppose that's the power of a good story, I suppose; it can make people happy, and that happiness spreads to others with even the slightest brush.
Soooooo...I guess you can think of a good story as some kind of vector for plagues. Plagues of joy. Yeah, I'm sure that's how science works.
Anyway, a good review. Certainly put a smile on my face.
Im glad it did. It really was a great story!
