Review:
The book starts out with Etta, an orphan who has powers of telekinesis. She is a stubborn and strong willed teen, who has been through more bad situations than most go through in their entire lives. She runs into Cooper, a man who apparently had been searching for her, and he explains that she is in the wrong reality.
He then takes her to the reality she was meant to be in, so that she can undo some horrible fate.

There are some good things about this book. The storyline
is unique, and could have made for an outstanding book. I haven’t read any parallel universes stories before, and I liked that idea a lot.

Other than that, the rest of the book just fell flat for me.
Starting in the prologue, you find out Etta has some sort of power that can control other peoples bodies. As the story progresses you see that she can control other things as well and you figure out WHY she can. but at the beginning, she never really questions it. If I could do something like that, and no one else could, I would be freaking out.

Then Jaime, her best friend, sees her talking to this Cooper guy and freaks out. If someone had come looking for my friend who was an orphan, I would try to talk to that person and figure out why. Not forbid my friend from seeing this person.
Then Etta just gets in the car with this strange older man, even though her best friend is freaking out about it. Why would that be ok?
I also didn’t like how all it took to get to another reality was to drive around in circles, that was really a letdown.
When her Aunt Maggie explains how to travel, the explanation really didn’t do anything for me.
Then the romance was so off. Almost nonexistent until she mentions, I have a thing for so-and-so.
Overall, I think this book had SO much potential. It was a great story, but there were just too many issues for me to actually like it.
Though there is a second book in the series, I will not be reading it.

Sounds like it had some potential, sorry you found it disappointing.
ReplyDeleteYeah me too! It's always sad when a book doesn't live up to its potential!
DeleteGreat review! I haven't even read this book but I was sitting here nodding and agreeing with every single one of your points. Ugh those seemingly non-existent romances bother me so much and they seem to be becoming more common "/ Plot, Characters, Chemistry. Those things always matter in a story!
ReplyDeleteGreat review! Actually, when I saw the cover popping up on my computer screen I was like: "Wait...is that real? Is that a real book cover? It is soooo beautiful!" It's sad that the story didn't live up to its full potential, but the cover somehow still makes me want to try it...
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you didn't enjoy this book! I've never read it but I know how disappointing it can be when you don't enjoy a book especially if it had so much potential.
